Sony Reel to Reel Machines
Although the brand name Sony didn't come into existence until 1958, the company had been manufacturing Reel to Reel tape recorders since 1950 when they produced Japan's first tape recorder called the Type-G
The company was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita and was originally known as the Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation), but because of the need to break into the American market and the difficulty in pronouncing their original name they changed the brand name to Sony.
Probably better known as the company that made the first commercially successful transistor radios, Sony also gained a reputation for producing high quality analogue tape recorders.
