Studer(Studer/Revox)
Studer (formerly known as Studer-Revox) were renowned for manufacturing some very reliable and good-sounding reel to reel tape recorders when set up well. The Revox B77 and the PR99, (the professional version), are still widely available and, although Studer/Revox no longer make these tape machines, they are easily maintained with parts readibly available and there are plenty of specialist repair people around.
Probably the best reel to reel recorders and players that Studer ever made was the A807 due to it's excellent transport mechanism and the superb audio electronics.
Obviously, a lot of used reel to reel recorders, even the Studer reel to reel player recorders have had a very hard life — particularly those that have used professionally, so exercise care when buying as a bargain recorder can quickly become very expensive even though new heads and motors are available.
